Rental Owner Mobile Dashboard
Real-time portfolio visibility for property owners, redesigned for mobile
Product UI is proprietary. Diagrams represent the design thinking, not the actual interface.
The API returned 40+ fields per property. Owners only cared about 6.
Financial performance first, maintenance second, everything else third. Every owner we interviewed ranked them in the same order.
Every design decision answered one of two questions: am I making money, and is anything broken?
Overhauling the permissions system would have taken 9+ months. So I designed around it, shipping the most useful views within the existing access model.
Used browser dev tools to inspect actual endpoints. Engineering buy-in was immediate because the design mapped to existing data.
User testing revealed a clear threshold. Reports handled the granular need without cramming everything into mobile.
Rental owners shifted from desktop to the mobile dashboard within the first quarter after launch.
Owners stopped calling to ask about their financials because the answers were already on screen.
Measured via the portal's existing NPS survey. The bump came mostly from owners who had previously rated the portal below average.
One card per API call, one question per card
Each card maps to data that already existed. No new backend work was needed, and each card loads independently.
Financial summary One endpoint returns net income, monthly income, and monthly expenses. The paired bar chart gives owners an instant read on cash flow trends without needing to open a spreadsheet.
Account transactions Property-level account summaries with 30-day rolling totals. Income and expense tabs let owners switch context without leaving the dashboard. Each row links to the full transaction history.

Owner requests Contribution requests from property managers surface with priority, description, and a direct action. Owners can approve funding without navigating away from the dashboard.
Owner ledger Draws vs. contributions over time with a rolling 3-month view. The paired bars make it obvious whether the owner is net-positive or net-negative at a glance.
